Throughout my time in Natural Sciences, I鈥檝e gained valuable scientific knowledge, greater confidence in my research abilities, and a deeper understanding of myself. This past summer, I immersed myself in interdisciplinary research focused on reducing the environmental impact and improving the efficiency of rare earth element extraction. What made this experience especially exciting was the opportunity to design and carry out my own laboratory experiments. However, where I experienced the most growth was in learning to communicate my research effectively to diverse audiences, all while sharpening my presentation skills.

As in science, finding my personal rhythm at university has required trial and error, experimenting with different course loads, study strategies, and support systems. I hope to inspire other students to continue with their studies and seek out opportunities like PURE to expand their skill sets. Being a scientist is about more than just test scores; it鈥檚 a hands-on pursuit that requires passion, creativity, and determination. I'm proud of my resilience and commitment to growth. I鈥檝e learned that mistakes and hardships are integral to the scientific process and personal growth. Opportunities for success combined with learning from our missteps help guide us towards the answers we seek and bring us closer to achieving our academic goals.
