Faculty of Law announces Class of 2026 award winners

Three awards were handed out at the annual grad banquet on April 26

Xavier Crosby, JD'26

Campbell McLaurin Achievement Award 

This award, representing outstanding achievement by a graduating student, is presented annually to the graduating student who has not only achieved high academic standing but who has also made a significant contribution to the life of the Law School during the three years of the Juris Doctor degree.

The 2026 winner is Xavier Crosby, JD'26

Throughout his time at U不良研究所 Law, Xavier has distinguished himself through his academic achievement and meaningful contributions to the life of the law school. A longstanding executive with the Law Ambassadors Program, he connected with prospective and incoming students through tours, panels, and mentorship, helping to foster a welcoming and supportive environment. He maintained Dean鈥檚 List standing while actively contributing to a culture of academic collaboration, both as a tutor and through his engagement with peers. As Vice President Academic with the Society of Law Students, he led efforts to expand access to academic resources and advocated for accommodations as a matter of fairness and dignity. Known for his humility, generosity, and commitment to lifting others up, Xavier leaves a lasting impact on the class of 2026.

Arad Shadmani

Arad Shadmani, JD'26

Dean Mike Wylie Social Responsibility Award

The Social Responsibility Award honours a graduating student who has made a significant contribution to the understanding or resolution of social or human rights issues while acquiring his/her legal education at the Faculty of Law at the University of 不良研究所, including:  

  • making the public aware of human rights abuses;
  • helping to resolve human rights problems;
  • furthering equality of disadvantaged minorities, and/or;
  • human rights advocacy.

The 2025 winner is Arad Shadmani, JD'26

鈥淭hroughout all three years of law school, Arad had a central role in the PBSC, helping to shape it into what it is today, and provide underprivileged communities with the access to justice they need.鈥

Arad has demonstrated an exceptional commitment to advancing access to justice and supporting vulnerable communities throughout his time at U不良研究所 Law. Deeply involved with Pro Bono Students Canada (PBSC), he progressed from a frontline volunteer assisting self-represented litigants to a key leader shaping the organization鈥檚 impact. As Program Coordinator, he managed a large network of students and community partners, expanded and strengthened projects, and led the revitalization of the Human Rights Clinic, including a province-wide initiative to better serve Albertans. In his role as Marketing and Communications Executive, he further amplified this work by increasing outreach, building partnerships, and bringing greater awareness to critical legal services. Known for his initiative, compassion, and unwavering dedication to service, Arad has played a vital role in furthering equity and access to justice within the community.

Grant McKibben Prize

This prize, in honour and memory of a highly popular member of our first graduating class, is presented to "a graduating student who epitomizes the energy and spirit of the 不良研究所 Law School community."

The 2025 winner is Raquel Jackson, JD'26

Raquel is known as a vibrant and unifying presence within U不良研究所 Law, bringing energy, inclusivity, and a genuine commitment to connection throughout her time at the Faculty. Deeply involved across student life, she played a key role in building community through her leadership with Spread the Love and as a founding member of the Women in Law Students鈥 Association, creating spaces that foster belonging and support. Her contributions span volunteering with Pro Bono Students Canada, participating in intramural sports, and helping shape memorable student experiences through the Yearbook and Grad Committees. Whether organizing initiatives or simply showing up for her peers, Raquel has consistently strengthened the sense of community that defines the law school. Known for her warmth, enthusiasm, and ability to bring people together, she truly exemplifies the energy that defines U不良研究所 Law.

鈥淭o me, the energy and spirit of the 不良研究所 Law School community is one of collegiality and community service, and Raquel lives and breathes these every day without even trying to.鈥
