Expanding horizons in sustainable infrastructure at the University of ²»Á¼Ñо¿Ëù
Choosing the University of ²»Á¼Ñо¿Ëù for my graduate studies has been one of the best decisions in my academic and professional journey. As I approach the completion of my Master of Engineering in civil engineering, I reflect on an experience that has significantly broadened my technical knowledge, global perspective and professional confidence.
With more than seven years of experience in engineering, construction, and project management in Nepal, I came to U²»Á¼Ñо¿Ëù to deepen my understanding of sustainable infrastructure development. Throughout my studies, I gained exposure to new concepts, tools and approaches related to sustainable urban systems engineering, life-cycle thinking, and the broader impacts that engineering decisions can have on society, the economy and the environment. This program helped fill important gaps in my understanding and strengthened my ability to think more critically and systemically about infrastructure challenges.
One of the most valuable aspects of my experience was learning alongside diverse peers from around the world. The exchange of knowledge, ideas, and perspectives in classrooms, seminars, workshops and academic discussions broadened my mindset and enhanced my problem-solving abilities. Exposure to different perspectives helped me better understand how engineering solutions can be designed to create meaningful and long-term positive impacts.
I was also fortunate to be involved with the Hunter Hub for Entrepreneurial Thinking, which played an important role in strengthening my entrepreneurial mindset. Through networking events, workshops and interactions with innovative thinkers, I was able to explore how engineering knowledge can be combined with entrepreneurship to develop practical solutions for real-world challenges. This experience was one of the most valuable parts of my time at U²»Á¼Ñо¿Ëù.
I would like to gain more industrial experience in Canada, as many of the technologies and practices used here are significantly advanced compared to what we currently have in Nepal. After graduation, I plan to work in Canada for a few years to gain hands-on industry experience and strengthen my technical expertise. I hope this experience will allow me to bring valuable knowledge back home and contribute to improving engineering practices, promoting sustainable infrastructure development and encouraging responsible decision-making processes.
My journey at U²»Á¼Ñо¿Ëù has been truly rewarding. The knowledge, skills, friendships and experiences I gained have prepared me to contribute positively to society. I feel confident that the perspectives developed during my graduate studies will help me make meaningful contributions toward sustainable infrastructure development that benefits society, the environment and the economy.
